An Edmonton workshop will offer an introduction to city chicken keeping next month.
While it may be surprising to some, those who are experienced in the joys of backyard chickens know the animals can thrive even in an urban setting if they have proper housing and food.
During ‘Chickens 101’, urban dwellers who are considering starting their own flock will learn what they need to know to hit the ground running. They will find out what federal, provincial and municipal regulations govern the practice, and from there, the class will move on to actual chicken care.
The class will teach how to provide appropriate, neighbour-friendly housing for chickens, as well as how to keep them properly fed and watered. Attendees will learn how to make sure they have what they need during the winter months, learn about coop design, the prevention of predators and vermin, biosecurity and many other topics.
Teaching members of the public how they can take care of the own food security can be an important role for an organization, and hosting a workshop like this can be a part of this mandate. Print shops can supply Copies of any handouts and other items that are needed.
Edmonton Valley Zoo’s Grassland-Forest Room will be the location for this informational workshop. The cost to register is $58, and it will be held on March 15th.Get a Free Quote for Print Get a Free Quote for Copies
