The humble rhubarb plant was once a staple of many Edmonton home vegetable gardens, and an upcoming class may just help it regain some of its former popularity.
Noted for being almost too easy to grow, many home gardeners have rhubarb plants but do not know what to do with them. Subject matter expert Cindy Suelzle will share her knowledge with the registrants in the “Rhubarb - the Forgotten Plant” workshop.
The session will include tips for rhubarb care, and the attendees will also discover how this favourite for making pies and other desserts can also be used to prepare salsa and an assortment of other dishes. It will be a hands-on workshop, with everybody having a chance to do some taste testing. The activity will last for one and a half hours, and tickets to participate are $5 each.
Many communities offer continuing education classes like this for adults, and these give people a way to keep on learning throughout their life. Recipe cards and other materials for such an event may be sourced by contacting a local printing services company.
This workshop, which is scheduled for Millhurst Community Hall in Edmonton, will be putting rhubarb in the spotlight on May 7th. It will begin at 7:00 pm, and its website includes more details as well, as a registration link.
