Current seasons lack of snow good news for Edmonton budget

The generally snow-free weather that Edmonton has been experiencing could result in an extra surplus for the city.

According to Mayor Don Iverson, city officials had expected to have a budget surplus of $6 million for the year. They arrived at this number after the harsh conditions and heavy snow experienced last winter. However, managers have been reviewing the numbers, and are finding they should come in at only $3.5 million more than had been allocated.

Mayor Iverson noted that, so long as the snowfall remains low between now and the end of the year, it should be possible to put some of the funding back into reserves which, as he pointed out, is good news for Edmonton.
Newsletter printing can be used to let residents know about the current financial and other situations in the city, and newsletters are still commonly used worldwide for this purpose to ensure city news is still inclusive of any more vulnerable populations who perhaps are not as technologically advanced.

The Mayor further went on to say that, with this additional input, the budget surplus could come in at nearly $15 million or perhaps even more. Much of this will be put into the city’s fund that has been set up to meet unexpected expenses. This “contingency fund” is required to be at a level of $93.3 million, which represents one month of normal operating costs. It currently stands at $91 million and this “added bonus” could help to top it up to the required level.
