Art and Design Festival takes over downtown Edmonton

The Works Art and Design Festival is currently taking place in Edmonton. The free annual festival drew over 372,000 visitors to the city in 2012, and although the finale isn’t until Tuesday, the current numbers are looking even higher.

The Festival, which began last week, is taking place at Sir Winston Churchill Square and in various downtown venues; with more than 260 events in total. There are workshops, artist's demonstrations, musical performances, talks and exhibits taking place.

There is also an art market and a food street; where local artisans will be selling jewelry, paintings, and clothing. Groups such as the Edmonton Chamber Music Society and the Edmonton Multicultural Society are set to perform during the festival.

On Canada Day, attendees will get to enjoy a portrait workshop in which people can add their pictures to a public collage. One exhibit of note will be ‘All about the Logo’, which will be presented by the Graphic Designers of Canada. It will involve various graphic design works, and the public can attempt to draw the logos they remember on a blank wall. There is likely to be something to appeal to everyone of any age at this festival.

It's very likely that Edmonton printing companies are helping organizers with this popular event, with many Posters, Flyers and Brochures being distributed in the area.

The Works Art and Design Festival is already underway and runs until July 2. Admission is free. For more information, call 780-426-2122.
