A Calgary forager wants to share her knowledge with the world, and she will be the host for a guided walk that will visit Pearce Estate Park.
Amanda Mitchell will be the facilitator for a guided educational plant walk. As per city bylaws, the group will not be doing any harvesting, but the walk will introduce the public to a variety of edible and medicinal plant species.
Both native and introduced plants will be identified. The group will also discuss local ecology, how to differentiate between edible and poisonous plants and also how to forage ethically. Recipes will also be shared so that the participants can get started at foraging for and preparing wild sourced greens, vegetables and fruit. All ages are encouraged to participate.
As the function will take place outdoors, everyone is reminded to dress for the weather and to bring both sunscreen and bug repellent. Water-resistant hiking shoes are also highly recommended. The host has also requested that everyone who registers observe social distancing measures.
This introduction to the benefits of harvesting wild foods has been organized by Latifa’s Herbs. Brochure printing companies will be able to prepare handouts for an activity like this, and this can help the participants to keep on learning even after it has ended.
The Educational Plant Walk will introduce edible and medicinal plants on August 7th. Tickets go on sale on July 15th.
