The Calgary Zoo is home to a colony of king penguins, and their schedule of winter walks has begun for another year.
Throughout the winter months, these birds are given an opportunity to go for a walk around the zoo grounds, and the public is invited to enjoy the experience. They will be able to see the penguins up close, and these excursions tend to be about 16 minutes long.
This activity, which offers enrichment to the penguins, is directed by the birds themselves. They are free to join in if they wish, and they usually choose to do so. The walks are weather dependent, and they are scheduled for each day so long as the conditions permit. Anyone who would like to confirm that a walk will be taking place on a particular day is advised to call the organizers.
One of the roles often taken on by zoos is to educate the public about wildlife, and a poster printing company will be able to help. It can prepare informational displays and other educational materials.
The Calgary Zoo Penguin Walks began on January 11th, and the zoo will be hosting these walks until March. They will begin at 10:30 am, and the birds will head out and end the walk at their habitat at Penguin Plunge.
