Calgary workshops target families with hearing impairment

American Sign Language (ASL) can make a real difference to deaf and hard of hearing family members, and Deaf and Hear Alberta is offering a course targeted towards Calgary residents.

The series of workshops will teach the fundamentals of Family Focused ASl, which is unique to Deaf and Hear Alberta. They are intended to be easy to learn quickly so that the families that participate in the training can begin utilizing it as soon as possible.

The organizers explained that the classes will offer a supportive learning environment that encourages collaboration between families and professionals. They are recommended for those who are at least six years of age, and the total teaching time is 15 hours.

The instruction for the events will be supplied by Deaf instructors who have been qualified to teach others, and the classes will run for three hours each. Childcare can be arranged if needed, and there is no fee to take a seat in the workshops. Learning manuals and other instructional materials for this sort of educational event can be produced by local Print shops.

This opportunity for families to enhance their communication skills will be offered from July 15 until July 19. It will be held at 63 Cornell Road.
