Calgary parks to be recipients of clean-up

Two Calgary sites that are popular with local nature lovers will soon be getting some care and attention, and everyone has been asked to stop by and lend a hand with the project.

Calgary’s 68th Street Wetlands and Elliston Park will both be undergoing a clean-up, and as the latter is the city’s second largest body of water, it serves an important role in both the human and natural world. The participants in the event will perform a variety of tasks, and all assistance will be appreciated.

The volunteers will be picking up trash and other debris from the sites, and this will then be collected and disposed of properly. Invasive weeds will be identified and removed, and Boxes for bumblebees and bird nesting houses will be installed as well. Anyone who would like to build a bird or bee box to keep can choose this option when they register for the day.

An activity like this gives residents a chance to take part in hands-on environmental stewardship, and Stationery printers can prepare certificates and other items to present to these helpers to thank them for their hard work.

Nature Calgary has organised to give these local parks some love on September 18th. The event is being hosted thanks to support from the TD Park People Grants program.
