A Calgary-based company is helping to bring back once-popular music technology.
“Canada Boy Vinyl” is now up and running, producing vinyl records, and it’s the only company of its kind in the whole country. According to Dillon Romney, who put in countless hours getting the business off the ground, he is really pleased to be a part of something that not only allows him the opportunity to be around musicians, but also provides a way to preserve the music they make.
The machines that actually press the records come from Germany and London, and are “left overs” from when this method playing music was the most prevalent. This can be challenging, as it can make it very difficult to get replacement parts. They often have to be custom designed and then produced in a machine shop, which can take quite a bit of time. A poster printing firm can produce advertising materials for the new company, as well as record jackets, labels, catalogs of the songs and musicians, and any other printed materials that are needed.
The goal for the operation is to produce as many as 10,000 records each day, and according to Mr. Romney, he is already getting orders. He remarked that this shows that there is certainly a demand for them in the city and the rest of the country as well.
