The 24th annual Festival of Quilts is taking place in Calgary next month for two days.
The festival will feature many displays of new handmade quilts from local artisans as well as many historic ones. There will also be several Iron Quilt challenges. In this challenge, two teams are given two hours to complete a quilt in a theme chosen by the judges. Cash prizes will be awarded.
Visitors can also purchase quilts and related materials at the Merchant's Mall.
Prior to the festival, four workshops will be led on site by Gyleen Fitzgerald. These workshops cost $179.99 each and will be held in the Gasoline Alley Classroom at Heritage Park. Topics include ‘City Scape’ and ‘It Takes Seven Sisters’. The costs include all materials and each participant will create their own quilts.
The first night of the festival will feature a gala dinner, which will be held at the Gasoline Alley Museum. Guests will enjoy a cocktail reception followed by dinner and entertainment. Entertainment will be provided by storyteller Ms. Fitzgerald.
Calgary flyer printing firms may provide the advertising materials necessary to spread the word about this event.
The Festival of Quilts will be held at Heritage Park from May 25 to 26, and the workshops will take place from May 21 to 24. Admission to the festival is $11 for adults, $5.70 for children, $7 for youth and $8.85 for seniors. Visit the official website to learn more.
