Youths join artists to create vibrant mural

Tullamarine residents who shop in nearby Brimbank have an opportunity to see a vibrant new mural first-hand.

Located on a Watt Street wall in an area traversed by people who use the train services at Sunshine Railway Station, the mural has been created as a joint effort between local artists and young people. According to Mayor of Brimbank, Georgina Papafotiou, the mural should inspire a sense of community pride as well as to reduce graffiti and improve the outlook around the railway station.

She said the collaborative work was something that would be enjoyed by the community for many years into the future and added:

"This mural represents our diverse and harmonious community and will improve the amenity of the local area for visitors to Sunshine Town Centre, rail commuters, and local property owners alike."

Public artworks such as the new mural are often included in promotional brochure printing that advertise local attractions to the wider community.

To make the mural a reality, young people who have been disadvantage took part in workshops organised by Brimbank Youth Services and hosted by local artists Sebastian Fransz and Tadro Ibrahim. It was here that the design and key components were devised.

No space was left uncovered on the wall where the mural now takes pride of place and the vibrant street art also includes the names of all youth and artists involved in its creation.
