Writers and Readers Festival to go online

The annual Brimbank Writers and Readers Festival, which attracts people from throughout the Brimbank Council area, including Tullamarine, will be held entirely online this year.

Brimbank Mayor, Georgina Papafotiou, said the popular event – now in its 15th year – is held to celebrate diversity and creativity, promote and foster life-long learning and encourage people's enjoyment of literature, writing and reading.

Papafotiou said the only thing different this year is that the entire programme can be enjoyed from the safety and comfort of people's own homes, and she added:

"The festival showcases a series of videos featuring six authors, in intimate conversation and there is no charge to access the events."

Events such as this have often been advertised via local media and flyer printing campaigns.

Filmed at St. Alban's Bowery Theatre, the conversations produced by Cinespace Incorporated will premiere on the YouTube channel of Brimbank Libraries.

The programme will begin with stories of resilience and strength featuring Imbi Neeme in conversation with Victoria Nicole Cini on September 5 and Amra Pajalic on September 6. Memoirs featuring Dmetri Kakmi with Olympia Panagiotopoulos and Leonard Kopilas will be available the following week. On the final weekend, Families and Crime featuring Sherryl Clark and novelists Carmel Reilly and Anna George will be screened.

The Brimbank Writers and Readers Festival will span three weekends, between September 5 and 20. Each video will screen from 8pm. Further information is available on the Brimbank Libraries website.
