A major manufacturing plant that specialises in bakery and flour pre-mixes in Tullamarine, Victoria, has recently completed a $21m upgrade.
Allied Mills Pty Ltd undertook the revamp to create an ultra-modern artisan bread line to add to its already well-established range.
The company, which is staffed by over 900 people across New Zealand and Australia, is among the largest suppliers of pre-mixes nationally for in-store supermarket bakeries, hot bread shops and industrial food service sectors.
The upgrade is at one of its four frozen bakeries. The company also has seven flour mills and four mixing plants, at which 800,000 tonnes of grains and wheat are processed each year.
Allied Mills' Victorian arm consists of its largest bakery at Tullamarine, a warehouse in Truganina, and flour mills in Kensington and Ballarat.
The upgrade works were officially opened by Lily D'Ambrosio, Minister for Industry, who said the fibre and food industries were considered to be among six growth sectors in which the government is investing, in an effort to create upward of 100,000 jobs in the future.
She said the joint venture was a step towards securing ongoing economic growth.
It has been anticipated that the addition of the new artisan bread line will result in it being included on catalogue printing for bakeries across New Zealand and Australia.
