Tullamarine signs McKernan for 2022

Notable player Shaun McKernan is joining the Essendon Football League Division 1 club, following the completion of his AFL career this year.

McKernan, who finished his 13-year career this year with St. Kilda, played 91 games in the AFL, across three clubs. The move represents a return to home ground for McKernan, who played juniors at the club. Tullamarine proudly announced his signing on Facebook, particularly noting the alignment of McKernan’s values with the club’s ethos in its post, which read, in part:

“Shaun joins the club not only as a player, but will help mentor our younger brigade in the role of assistant coach-forward line [coach] working under DC [David Connell] and Chappy [Ben Chapman].”

McKernan’s return will boost Tullamarine’s premiership hopes for 2022, after finishing this year’s competition as runner-up when the season was cut short by the pandemic lockdown, and the premiership was awarded on points.

The Tullamarine Football Club, known as the Demons, ended with 36 points, which was second on the ladder to premiers East Keilor on 44 points. Print shops can play a role in supporting local sporting teams like this by providing branded Apparel and Banners.

With the majority of the 2021 team remaining in place for next year’s season, and a $1.9 million upgrade to club facilities in the works, coach David Connell is making it clear that Tullamarine’s next goal is the premiership.
