Tullamarine reserve set for upgrade

Tullamarine’s Leo Dineen Reserve has been flagged for a $1.9 million upgrade to expand its use for local sporting clubs and the community.

Already in line to receive an investment of $1.4 million by Hume City Council, an additional half a million dollars in funding was recently announced by the Victorian State Government.

As part of the upgrade, the reserve’s pavilion will be redeveloped to include accessible, family-friendly changerooms and amenities, along with umpire and first aid facilities, a bar and canteen, and a covered outdoor viewing area.

The reserve is used extensively by local Tullamarine sports organisations, including the Football Club and Cricket Club. Peter Labbad, President of the Tullamarine Football Club and Vice President of the Cricket Club, praised the upgrades as important for the wider community, as well as for the clubs themselves. On announcing the State Government funding, Ros Spence, Minister for Community Sport, said:

“It’s about getting people out and getting them active and encouraging girls and women to be part of that as well.”

The additional funding was welcomed by Hume City Mayor Joseph Haweil, who said the upgrades to competition standards will serve Tullamarine well into the future. He noted the health and wellbeing, as well as social, impacts of offering safe and welcoming community sporting facilities.

The redevelopment project is slated for completion by mid-2022.
