Since the pandemic and its aftermath has impacted so many people, the importance of maintaining adequate mental health and supporting the community with mental health concerns has been prevalent in the last several years. Hume City Council is offering training in mental health first aid for the community, including Broadmeadows and Tullamarine, in the form of a special workshop this February.
The organisation running this training is Mental Health First Aid, in partnership with VAYA, the Victorian Youth Afghan Association. The workshop will help participants learn about how to assist people who are experiencing mental health problems, whether that be developed or new, and how to assist in a mental health crisis until an appropriate responder is available to take over the situation or the crisis resolves.
Upon completion of this workshop, there is the chance to complete an online Accreditation Assessment to become an accredited Mental Health First Aider for a period of three years. This event will take place on Saturday, February 11, with the workshop lasting from 9 am to 5 pm. Another workshop will take place on February 25 to complete the accreditation process.
This event is located at Craigieburn Youth Centre, 59 Craigieburn Rd, Craigieburn. Parking is available onsite and it is also close to both buses and trains for public transport. Bookings are essential.
