People across Melbourne who are looking for some tasty treats should head to Overnewton Castle in Keilor this month for a special picnic event.
The Teddy Bear’s Picnic, which will be held in the Castle’s stunning gardens, promises to be plenty of fun for families from nearby Tullamarine. Face painting, storytelling, and pony rides are all on offer for the younger visitors while adults will enjoy a relaxing afternoon and the chance to explore the gardens.
Overnewton Castle was built by Scottish settler William Taylor in 1849 as Keilor became an important area for travellers to the goldfields. A few years later, Taylor worked to build the Scottish baronial castle of his dreams. Inspired by Victorian Tudor style architecture, the building includes turrets, and stone walls. It is set in extensive gardens featuring both native and English plants. The homestead is now run as a wedding and conference venue and opens to the public for several events throughout the year.
The colourful event will provide some great opportunities for family photographs that could be reproduced by a Print company to display at home or send to relatives.
Families can pack their own picnic or save themselves some work and buy one on arrival at the castle. Every child who goes along will get a special certificate to show they attended.
The picnic takes place from 10:00am to 3:00pm on Sunday September 15 and entry costs $10 per person. Bookings for the event must be made in advance by contacting the venue. For more information, visit the Overnewton Castle website.
