Taller noise walls on way for Gladstone Park residents

Existing noise walls currently in place along the busy Tullamarine Freeway are set to be replaced with taller, newer structures.

The subject of a recent community information session in Tullamarine Victoria’s Gladstone Park, the noise walls are to be construction between Carrick Drive and Mickleham Road.

The structures are to be sited where the original timber walls currently stand, according to Director for Vic Roads overseeing the widening project, Trevor Boyd.

Boyd explained the new walls are to be made of concrete panels and feature a one-metre, translucent green-tinted acrylic panel at the top.

Each structure will stand 3.4m high; markedly taller than their predecessors, which reached a height of only 2.5-3 metres.

Boyd said the added height will provide greater protection and help reduce noise levels from the Freeway.

The freeway side of the walls will be charcoal and grey, as selected from a full colour printing chart, while property owners hosting noise barriers will be given a choice of their favourite shade of green to be used when painting their side.

In coming weeks residents can expect piling works on the new noise walls at Gladstone Park to begin with the completion of the project schedule for early 2018, according to Boyd.

He added that door-knocking of residents who will be directly affected by the works is currently being conducted by VicRoads representatives.
