Construction started this month for the new State Rugby League and Community Centre, which will provide a home base for NRL Victoria and Touch Football Victoria, as well as local club Northern Thunder.
The planned state-of-the-art, accessible venue was commended by the Mayor of Hume City, Councillor Joseph Haweil, at the project’s kick-off, which was attended by representatives from Hume Council, the Victorian Government and NRL team Melbourne Storm, which is partnering on the initiative. NRL Victoria and Touch Football are also involved.
Haweil noted the benefits the facility stands to offer the local community include opportunities to play and host sport, along with boosting the local economy. Print shops can create materials that promote facilities like this within a community.
The planned centre was said to be a “game changer” for the youth of Victoria by Justin Rodski, the Chief Executive of Melbourne Storm. Rodski added:
“It will also be a great venue for Storm to train and run community programs in Hume, giving more young people the chance to see their idols in person.”
Development programs that support the growth of both touch football and rugby league will be an area of focus for the facility.
