Soil tests bring Airport to CBD rail link a step closer

Soil testing to provide additional information for preliminary plans relating to the proposed Melbourne Airport rail link is underway.

Geotechnical drilling to establish soil quality and ground conditions is involved in the testing. As part of the process, boreholes of a diameter up to 25cms and depth of 45m will be drilled to collect rock and soil samples.

Six sites will be targeted in the investigations, including around the Tullamarine M80 Ring Road and the Maribyrnong River. The preliminary testing has been seen as a major win for Victoria by Jacinta Allan, the Transport Infrastructure Minister who added:

“We’ve made sure the Airport Rail Link will benefit all Victorians – delivering a new super-hub at Sunshine and paving the way for fast rail to the regions. It will deliver wider benefits beyond simply moving tourists and business people between the CBD and the airport. It will help us transform the way people live, work and travel right across Victoria.”

Subject to the necessary approvals, the planned nine-year schedule to build the Melbourne Airport Rail Link is due to begin in 2022.

Once complete the link, it will operate from the Melbourne Airport to the CBD via Sunshine. Authorities often use brochure printing services to keep the community up to date with the progress of projects such as this.

An estimated $8-13 billion is anticipated to be spent on delivering the rail project in its entirety.
