Road widening set to provide smoother ride for airport commuters

Construction of the $1.3bn project to widen the CityLink Tullamarine, Victoria freeway is on track to deliver a transport route that will reduce travelling times and congestion for motorists.

Work began on the project between Bell Street and Bulla Road in October this year following its launch by Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews at Essendon Fields.

Mr. Andrews said the project had created an estimated 1,400 jobs and, when complete in 2018, would provide a much more reliable and smother run between the city and Tullamarine.

Banner printing has helped motorists identify the project, which is being undertaken mostly at night to reduce the impact of works on drivers using the freeway.

The Tullamarine Freeway was described by Major Projects Federal Minister Paul Fletcher as one of the city’s busiest road corridors. He said $200m had been committed to the upgrade of the first section between Melrose Drive and Melbourne Airport, which was a joint initiative between private enterprise, the Victoria and Australian governments.

Tullamarine and the Melbourne Airport, which have been the focus of many major marketing campaigns involving top quality Brochures, Banners, Flyers and Signs, will benefit from the works, which will dramatically increase the road’s capacity, according to Minister for Roads Luke Donnellan.

Donnellan said the project, expected to be completed in 2018, would support growth both in the burgeoning north-western and northern suburbs, as well as Melbourne Airport.
