Charity-minded residents of Tullamarine, Victoria are gearing up for the annual World’s Greatest Shave event, which raises money to help those suffering with blood cancer.
The event is organised by the Leukaemia Foundation and money raised makes up about 50% of funds required for research into finding cures and better treatments for leukaemia, myeloma, lymphomas and related blood disorders.
A spokesman for the Foundation said about $178m had been raised since the first World’s Greatest Shave was held in 1998.
He said the event was widely advertised through the media and by various marketing strategies such as Flyers and Brochures in local communities, and represented a fun way for individuals, businesses, friends and family to participate.
Those taking part are sponsored to shave their heads, or they can opt to wax or colour their hair instead if they prefer, said the spokesman.
He added that participants could also order logos, Promotional Products and Stationery, including badges, sponsorship Forms, receipt Books and Posters from the Foundation to help promote individual events.
On March 11, a special Funky Hair Day will be held for school students across the nation, allowing them to donate a gold coin in return for wearing a wacky or weird hairstyle to school.
The official World’s Great Shave will be held from March 10 to 13, and the timing of events will be flexible.
