Tullamarine Men’s Shed has received a 2016 Community Grant from Hume City Council.
The grant was one of 140 issued to local groups and organisations that run services providing assistance for residents.
Cr. Patsikatheodorou said the total of $352,430 in grants would help a wide range of community groups that offered social activities and important services, including multicultural associations, health centres, senior citizen groups and sports clubs.
Young women becoming parents for the first time are assisted by grant recipients the Raise Foundation’s BUMP project.
Cr. Patsikatheodorou organisations such as the Raise Foundation ensured young girls were fully equipped to care for both the baby and themselves.
He said many disadvantaged residents would also be assisted by the Community Grants Programme.
The Tullamarine Men’s Shed goal is to promote men’s wellbeing and health while also providing a place to enjoy educational, charitable and social activities, according to a spokesman.
He said members and guests were also able to build competency and understanding about working with tools and equipment and all men were welcome to join. The group meets at 12 noon each Monday.
Flyer printing and websites of the various organisations provided more details on the many important community services available to residents and those in need.
The grants will also help Anglicare Broadmeadows undertake booklet printing to list ways parents with limited financial resources can turn everyday household objects into toys for children.
