Local football team seeks new recruits

The search is on for young men to join the newest football team to hit Sunbury.

The squad – made up of disadvantaged and vulnerable youths in the over 16 age group – is seeking more players before the season begins on April 15th.

It is hoping to recruit from the City of Hume and surrounding areas, including Tullamarine, Victoria.

Organisers have set a target of 15 new players to join the Reclink team, which is yet unnamed.

Volunteers, sponsors and coaches have already been secured, along with training equipment and transport for away games.

The aim, according to joint coach and co-ordinator Brian Millett, is to field a full team, so up to 30 players are being sought to compensate for what could be a transient squad.

He said having a minimum team of 15 would at least allow them to borrow some players from opposing squads.

Millett said new recruits were not required to be skilled players, but they did need the right attitude. Drugs and alcohol are strictly banned from games and training.

The opportunity to play for the team was hoped to rekindle the spirit of life in some of the area’s young people, according to the joint coach.

He said printing services were operating at top speed to encourage a response from youths in the area.
