The mascot of the Burleigh Bombers Australian Rules Football Club recently took the opportunity to pass on fitness tips to some of his young kindergarten charges in Tullamarine, Victoria.
Skeeta the mosquito took a few of the tiny Bombers fans at the Eclipse Early Education Centre through some easy routines, and the day was held in conjunction with Essendon Football Club’s Kinder Carnival programme.
Kids from across Melbourne’s northwest kindergartens have been benefitting from the innovative system, which puts a focus on co-ordination, fitness and fun.
According to Kerry Gibbs, centre director, the programme is aimed at helping children put their motor skills to good use and take part in physical activity.
Gibbs said the focus was on keeping kids on the move and fit, and explained that too many children in today’s society are at risk of becoming obese in later life due to the many hours spent in front of a computer or iPad screen.
Speaking further, Gibbs said it was important to introduce a fitness regime at an early age.
The Tullamarine children put computer games aside for their special session with Skeeta, at which he taught them various new physical activities to practice at home.
Flyer and brochure printing advertising upcoming Essendon’s Kinder Carnival programme dates are proving popular with northwest kindergarten students and families.
