An appreciation for trees is being encouraged in Tullamarine, Victoria and surrounding areas.
A competition and a new initiative called Branch Out Brimbank has been introduced by Brimbank City Council to create and nurture a love of trees within the suburban areas
A theme of My Favourite Brimbank Tree has been adopted in the competition, which invites residents to submit photographs for an opportunity to win a copy of Richard Allen’s Australia’s Remarkable Trees, and a $100 iTunes gift voucher.
In addition, the Branch Out Brimbank project, according to the Chair of Brimbank Administrators, will give residents a chance to become more knowledgeable about trees and their importance to the local environment. They would also have an opportunity to participate in a programme of activities and events related to trees.
Branch Out Brimbank is an extension of National Tree Day, which was held earlier in the year. During the event, 110 volunteers turned up to Sydenham Park to help plant some 1,100 trees, which illustrated the community’s interest, the chair said.
He added that there was never a shortage of volunteers when tree-planting programmes were held in the area at other times throughout the year, and activities such as postcard printing often reflected the community’s love of trees.
Businesses, schools, community groups and residents have also been invited to share information and ideas about how they support, plant and promote trees for inclusion on the council’s Branch Out Brimbank website.
