Community consultation opens on plans to transform recreation reserve

Hume Council has released a bold, new vision for the transformation of Section Road’s Greenvale Recreation Reserve.

Public consultation of a proposed $5.6m masterplan for the site has now opened, following its recent endorsement by Council.

The release of the plan was applauded by Cr. Geoff Porter, who said it had been long awaited.

He said many local groups, including Tullamarine Pony Club, Bulla Adult Riding Club and Oaklands Horse and Carriage Driving Club that use the equestrian area will benefit from aspects of the plan, such as the provision of larger change rooms.

Cr. Porter said the community is continuing to grow and facilities to cater for the big clubs are crucial on such a big reserve. He said digital copying of the plans will allow not only community members, but also local sports clubs to be part of the consultation process, which will end on February 8.

The Councillor said $1.5m had already been committed to build another oval pavilion, including a public toilet, canteen and change rooms, at the site, with work expected to be completed within the next couple of years.

According to a report on the project, a further $4.197m would be required to complete the remaining refurbishment works, which were to include turf wickets, floodlights, play area facilities, pavilion works and a new carpark.

Also recommended in the masterplan is the relocation of community hall activities to a new site.
