Nominations are open for the 2021 Moreland Awards, which celebrates community impact through outstanding commitment and service. Anyone living, working, studying, playing or volunteering in the City of Moreland, including Tullamarine, is eligible to be considered for an award.
The Moreland Awards are given to groups and individuals whose work has improved the quality of life for others in the city. There is a wide range of categories that capture contributions through events and volunteering, as well as arts, culture and sport.
The programme acknowledges initiatives in an array of areas, including local youth, environmental protection, reconciliation, access and inclusion. Flyer printing can be an effective way to publicise award programmes and encourage the community to nominate potential recipients.
Last year saw a disruption to the Moreland Awards’ traditional awards ceremony. Due to the restrictions in place to combat the coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 award winners were acknowledged at an online event. Moreland Mayor at the time, Lambros Tapinos, stated that the difficult circumstances made the celebration of contributions to others in the community even more important.
One of many 2020 award winners, Josephine Vains, received her Contribution to Arts and Culture Award for a unique service that reflected the unusual times. Vains held classical music ‘letterbox concerts’ that could be safely enjoyed by neighbours and the community from driveways, balconies and cars during the lockdown period.
Nominations for the award programme are now open and will close at 5pm on 3 September.
