An artificial wave pool will open in Tullamarine and is the first of its kind in Australia.
Urbnsurf Melbourne has been an 18 month long project and will soon be ready for visitors to ride their first waves.
The surf park is powered by Wavegarden and will create knee-high waves for beginners with waist-high breakers for intermediate surfers and will also have a barrel wave for advanced wave riders. This will be Wavegarden’s first public wave pool, which uses second-generation technology called The Cove.
The wave generator is expected to be able to pump 1,000 life-like ocean waves every hour and over the next couple of months will be looking at how to increase the wave size from baby ripples to staggering tube waves. According to Urbnsurf founder, Andrew Ross, the process is highly technical and not something to be rushed.
Facilities at the park will also include a surf shop and a surf academy as well as the Three Blue Ducks restaurant which overlooks the action of the wave pool. Brochure printing may be used to promote new facilities available in the community.
The surf park is a few minutes’ drive from Melbourne’s airport and is right across the road from the Essendon Football Club. The park is expected to be open to surfers in December when the warmer weather begins.
