Artists invited to enter 2020 Art Awards

Artists in Tullamarine and throughout Hume City are being invited to enter the 2020 Arts Awards.

Applications opened recently for the Council-run awards that enable successful artists to share in a grants programme worth $20,000. The awards are separated into three categories incorporating Youth Artists in the age group of 12-18, Emerging Artists 30 or under, and Established Artists above 30 years of age.

The adult categories offer a top prize of $3,000 each while $500 is up for grabs for the winner of the youth category. The funds can be used to support further artistic development.

The role of artists within the community is vitally important, according to Hume City Mayor Carly Moore who said it contributes in many areas including wellbeing, local identity and innovation. She added:

“Our Arts Awards support artists by providing funds that help their professional development as well as showcase the work they do. "

Creative work by artists has been seen in many professions such as graphic design and painting and the latest awards ensure many disciplines are included, with entries open to mixed or new media, writing, ceramics, printmaking, dance, theatre, music, drawing, textiles, photography, sculpture and painting.

Artists living within Hume City are able to enter their work by the closing date of April 27. Further information on the awards is available on the council website.
