Apiarists head to Tullamarine for honey bee conference

The sweet taste of honey will be on the minds of delegates at this year’s Victorian Apiarists Association (VAA) annual conference, to be held in Tullamarine, Victoria.

Beekeepers from around the state are expected to attend the industry event, which will include guest speakers, industry updates, and a special hospitality evening hosted by the Melbourne branch at the Mantra Tullamarine Hotel.

VAA President Robert McDonald said the first day session will be aimed mainly at hobbyist and commercial beekeepers with trade displays, information, new technology and gadgets on show during the evening.

Business Cards, Brochures and flyer-printing releases are often made available to ensure delegates can follow up on products of interest.

Special guest speakers will include United States Department of Agriculture representative Dr Jay Evans, who will give an address on each day of the conference.

Apiarist Peter McDonald will present an informative session on the Chinese beekeeping industry and its potential to provide positive ideas to help improve the industry in Australia.

The National Bee Pest Surveillance Program and the launch of a new national website for beekeepers and pollination-reliant crop growers, called BeeAware, will also be on the agenda.

The final day of the conference, which will be held from July 6th to 8th, will see a number or reports delivered, including one on the effect of using chemicals during pollination both now and in future years.
