Dandenong will host the festival, which will feature films from the USA, Sri Lanka, Iran and Australia. Now into its fourth year, the festival has effectively provided a place to showcase the work of accomplished and emerging artists as well as community members.
The 2019 programme will include locally filmed and produced ‘All These Creatures’, which last year was awarded the Palme D’Or at France’s Cannes Film Festival. According to Richard Moore, curator of the Short Cuts Festival, the prestigious award win for the local film represented a real coup. He added:
“The success of this film, produced in partnership with Council, proves that the distance between Dandenong and the south of France is shorter than you think.”
Partnering with Youthworx, the City of Greater Dandenong will for the first time conduct a mentorship programme for young people interested in film to run for 10 weeks.
The festival will feature the work of 15 local people who will premiere three powerful films. Printing services have often assisted greatly in publicising innovative community events such as the film festival.
Dandenong’s Drum Theatre will host the Short Cuts Film Festival on October 5 from 7:30pm, while showcasing young filmmaker’s short films at Ross Reserve the following day.
