Stage set for scale model expo and championships in Springvale
Plastic scale model collectors are gearing up for the staging of the 2014 Model Expo, which will also incorporate the Australian Open Plastic and Scale Model Championships.
To be held at the Sandown Park Exhibition Centre in Springvale, Victoria, the event will showcase the popular hobby of plastic modelling.
The championships will be held during the event and entries will cover a wide range of categories, ranging from aircraft, science fiction, trucks, cars and AFVs to figures.
The Model Expo has come a long way since its initial showing at the Royal Melbourne Showground’s Arts and Crafts Pavilion.
Today, the event is held in a massive 2,000sq m area and attracts more than 2,000 models, 30 traders and over 20 club displays.
The Australian Model Expo, which draws additional interest via flyer printing campaigns in the area, is held over three days and is considered the only one of its kind across the nation.
Complementing the championship competition, in which there are 60 categories, the event also offers a large `Swap and Sell’ area, provides demonstrations and boasts a strong participation by traders.
Visitors to the event will also be able to see the latest releases from retailers and kit distributors, as well as enjoy a host of club and hobby displays on show throughout the event.
The Australian Model Expo will be held from 7th-9th June.
