Factory owners in the Springvale and Dandenong areas are being encouraged to go solar after a steel manufacturer turned the installation of solar panels into an internationally acclaimed event.
Dandenong South’s Hilton Manufacturing put the spotlight on their business by switching on the largest collection of solar panels on a factory roof top in the southern hemisphere.
This latest innovation has attracted worldwide interest with delegations from India and Taiwan visiting the site last month.
Jacques Esper, project manager, said the business had set up a training room to cater for the influx of visitors who could witness the solar farm in action from a well-positioned viewing platform.
An estimated 25 per cent of the business’s power is drawn from the 340 solar panels, strategically placed across the 15,000 square metre factory roof top.
Other factory businesses requiring less energy could use a similar set-up to run their entire operation and still sell up to 75 per cent of the power back to the grid.
Hilton Manufacturing’s lightweight bespoke steel frame is the key to effectively placing the solar panels onto the rooftops and it is this technology together with the benefits of solar energy that is turning heads around the world.
It is hoped the Dandenong South solar farm will inspire others to install the technology, including those who own empty factories that are currently standing idle.
