Disability, Ageing and Carers Minister Luke Donnellan recently unveiled plans for the near $134.6 million aged-care facility, which will be located in the Kingston Centre of Monash Health and will provide 150 beds and cater for residents with complex needs. The design aims to promote independence and resident mobility, while also providing an environment that is dementia friendly.
The single rooms will be modern and will include ensuite bathrooms that are completely private. Families and residents will also have the convenience of a sacred space, community room and other areas for activities and social interactions. Views of open areas, plenty of natural light and access to gardens and terraces will also add to the facility's ambience.
According to Donnellan, a “pandemic mode” air conditioning and ventilation system will also be installed at the facility to help contain any infectious airborne particles and provide a full complement of fresh air at all times.
Local member Lee Tariamis applauded the project, saying:
“We’re ensuring the older Victorians in our community have a high quality, safe and comfortable home, where they know they’ll be well cared for.”
Monash Health will staff and operate the new facility, which is expected to be operational by 2025. Care homes such as this are often widely publicised via brochure printing campaigns.
