Local government authorities in Kingston, Casey, Knox and Greater Dandenong have combined with other organisations to put on an Expo.
The hosting of a Smart Manufacturing Expo in south-eastern Melbourne highlights a
revival in the manufacturing sector. The Chisholm Institute, an educational provider, is backing the initiative. Industrialists, including those on the Committee for Dandenong, have also given their time to the cause. Business Forms from nearby Springvale could come in useful at the event. Peter Meek, an executive for the Chobani food corporation, told The Australian:
“What is great about this region is we found the council and the community are incredibly responsive to our manufacturing business. Having access to the right capability and resources — people, raw material, service support — is really important and we have all those things in this area.”
Southern Melbourne has been a headquarters for Chobani since 2012. The company has increased its production of yoghurt significantly since then. It exports its goods to Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. Chobani is looking to diversify into the manufacture of dips.
Other organisations have joined Chobani in what has been described as a zone of manufacturing. Multinationals and SMEs have taken advantage of the opportunities available. Caravan producer Jayco is a local firm that is contributing to the progress of manufacturing. Within the nation, only the west of Sydney is stronger than southern Melbourne. Advanced manufacturing may continue to do well when less sophisticated companies struggle to compete.
