Springvale residents will be among many to benefit from the establishment of a sports hub in nearby Keysborough South.
Funding for the project was announced recently by Isaacs MP Mark Dreyfus, who said the allocation would provide a new community and sporting pavilion at Tatterson Park, with one of the features being a synthetic playing pitch.
The sporting hub was described as an asset for all areas of the city by Nina Kelly of the Keysborough South Action Group.
She said the delivery of an intergenerational place for the community to meet was a specific priority for residents of the City of Greater Dandenong.
The council's Mark Doubleday, community services director, said the project would deliver on all bases, with floodlighting on the synthetic pitch catering for a host of sporting interests including soccer.
He said the venue would not only be a haven for all types of sports, but also provide the area with a great meeting place that could be benefit residents for many years to come.
Work on the new sporting venue is expected to begin in the next financial year and completed by mid-2017.
Flyer printing and council website updates will keep residents informed on the $9.73 million project's progress.
The City of Greater Dandenong has shared the cost of the project with the Commonwealth Government, which has allocated $4.86 million towards it becoming a reality.
