Grenda was started by George Grenda in 1945 and the bus manufacturing branch, Volgren, was opened in 1977.
The Leader newspaper reports:
“Grenda is Australia’s largest bus maker, building about 600 buses a year and employs about 2000 people Australia-wide.”
The $15 million dollar bonuses average to $8500 per employee:

Etty Elisa Burgess Talaeuga, 48, told the Leader after he received a $4,200 bonus.
After selling the business, which includes bus routes in Springvale and other South-Eastern suburbs, to Ventura Mr Grenda said:
“The business is only what it is today as a result of the high quality of its people, and I am confident that this will underpin the strength of this business for many years to come.’’
Although Grenda employees will require new digital Business Cards to reflect the acquisition, the managing director from Ventura, Andrew Cornwall, stated that there would be no job losses for Grenda employees.
In a public statement, Mr Grenda said:
“While this has been a difficult decision for the Grenda family, we are confident that with 153 years of combined service to Melbourne public transport, the merger can only result in an improved and more sustainable service to the travelling public.”
