Work on an almost $10m pavilion at Keysborough’s Tatterson Park in Victoria is on track for commencement later in the year.
The development, which will also benefit residents in surrounding areas including Springvale, has been described as a multipurpose sporting facility.
Mark Dreyfus, Member for Isaacs, last year welcomed $4.86m in federal funding towards the project, saying the City of Greater Dandenong would fund the balance of $9.73m.
Recently, the announcement by MP Martin Pakula of a Community Sports Infrastructure Fund grant of $650,000 has completed the funding requirements, allowing work to begin as early as July 2016.
The major Tatterson Park Pavilion development will, according to Pakula, become a much used multipurpose sports hub. It will feature a 500–seat grandstand, community meeting rooms, a function room, and eight change rooms.
Currently, sporting groups including the Dandenong Stingrays AFL team and the Thunder and Dandenong City soccer clubs are using the reserve, which is equipped only with portable change rooms to meet demand.
Mayor Heang Tak said the project reaching fruition came after a lot of work undertaken over the past 5 years by everyone, from graphic design teams and printing services, to councillors and staff.
The mayor said Springvale South’s Alex Nelson Reserve Pavilion had also received a grant of $100,000 towards its $1.4m upgrade, with tenders set to be called in spring and a possible start date at the end of the year.
