Westpac has honoured 200 scholars as part of its Bicentennial Foundation.
Springvale Victoria’s Tine Te, an RMIT University student of undergraduate software engineering, is among 35 scholars who received a Young Technologists Scholarship worth up to $25,000.
The aim of the foundation is to expand the country’s number of talented technologists by providing assistance to undergraduates whose passions lie in the areas of innovation and technology and their impact on Australia’s economy.
An RMIT student, Ms Te said the scholarship will not only help in furthering her education but would also provide the opportunity to secure Business Cards and network with people who have already succeeded in the field.
She said the world is filled with technology which is ever-changing.
According to Susan Bannigan, Westpac Bicentennial Foundation CEO, technology was one of the foundation’s three key priorities, affecting every part of people’s lives as well as being at our future’s forefront.
Ms Bannigan said the Westpac Young Technologists Scholarship had been introduced with a number of aims in mind.
These included a desire to boost the number of young people pursuing a career in technology while also stepping up diversity within the industry.
The CEO added that half of the 35 scholarship winners, all of whom gain Westpac 100 Scholars Network life membership, are female and approximately nine recipients are moving from their homes in regional Australia to participate in technology-related degrees.
