Exhibition to showcase and celebrate diversity
IKEA Springvale has provided $1,000 to each of the six successful artists in this year’s HOME Exhibition to assist them in creating their individual artworks.
The annual programme is run by the Greater Dandenong City with the aim of supporting and promoting artists who have a refugee background or are seeking asylum. Established or emerging artists were able to enter, with the ultimate aim of the exercise being to celebrate the contribution each makes to their local community and further afield.
In what is the event's sixth year, six artists hailing from all over Australia have been selected to contribute to the exhibition. They include Dr Dacchi Dang and Mirela Cufurovic, from New South Wales, Western Australia's Elham Eshraghian and Victoria's Saidin Salkic, Mastaneh Azarnia and Humaira Fayazi.
A myriad of artistic interests are covered by this year's artists ranging from graphic design, installation art and photography to painting, ceramics and filmmaking.
All artists have also taken part in opportunities for professional development as well as gaining assistance from professional academic, editor and writer Nadia Niaz to write a text journal about their completed works, which will be released as a book prior to the HOME Exhibition.
Each artist is required to create works based on a specific theme for the HOME Exhibition, which will be presented from July 9 to August 15. The presentation of artworks will be undertaken via online programming and virtual content.
