What's Happening in Mulgrave, VIC…

Exhibition to provide artistic look at nature

Local artists from Springvale and throughout Greater Dandenong City are being urged to delve into the world of nature through Flora, an exhibition that is scheduled to debut later in 2020.

Curator Esther Gyorki said the aim of the exhibition is to encourage artists and visitors to explore the beauty, fragility and importance of the plant world and nature itself.

Set to be held from October 22 to November 21, the exhibition will be accompanied by other installations, workshops and information sessions to highlight the artwork and the inspiration behind them.

It is planned to stage the programme outside, online and within some gallery spaces indoors, being mindful of the COVID-19 situation.

10 artists hailing from all over Australia will contribute to the Walker Street Gallery display, with native flora being the primary focus.

Meanwhile, a broader look at plant life will be featured in an exhibition running concurrently at Dandenong's Heritage Hill Museum and Historic Gardens.

Until September 14, interested artists are able to make submissions focusing on the theme of flora using the mediums of audio-visual, mixed media, photography, painting or sculpture.

Exhibitions such as Flora, which will also be the subject of an artist-in-residency programme during August and October, have often been advertised via local brochure printing campaigns.

Applications from people working in music, voice, composition or sound are currently being accepted for the programme, which will be held at Springvale's Alex Wilkie Nature Reserve.
