People living in Greater Dandenong, including Springvale, are set to benefit from a major $290 million project aimed at revitalising Central Dandenong.
As part of the upgrade process, the construction of a $60m apartment block by Places Victoria in conjunction with developers Orion International Group has been announced.
A graphic design of the proposed development features a 14-storey building earmarked for the current Pop-Up Park site in Foster Street.
The project is to include 140 apartments and car parking with office space and retail on the ground floor.
Precincts general manager for Places Victoria, Simon Wilson, said the apartments would broaden the housing options in the centre of the CBD and close to public transport.
He said the construction phase would help boost local employment opportunities and, when complete, inject new activity into the economy.
Deputy General Manager of the Orion International Group Oliver Hu said Dandenong was a place of great potential and his company was dedicated to delivering on quality and design to ensure a top result for residents, the surrounding community and investors.
The Revitalising Central Dandenong project, initiated in 2006, is expected to generate private sector investment of in excess of $1.2 billion in addition to creating 5,000 jobs and boosting the city’s appeal as a place to live, visit and work.
The initiative, according to Mr. Wilson, has already attracted private investment of $500 million with a further 11 sites remaining to be developed.
