What's Happening in Mulgrave, VIC…

Charity moves to bigger premises as demand for services rise

The charitable organisation Avocare, which covers the areas of Dandenong, Noble Park and Springvale, Victoria is on the move.

Established in 2003, Avocare has previously been operating out of two sites, including a Cheltenham Road warehouse and its office located in Robinson Street.

However, the charity’s service has outgrown the space available and, according to founder Trish Keilty, it was time to expand and seek a larger operating space, which she found in Dandenong South.

She said the extra space would pave the way for more projects to be undertaken.

Each week, the organisation’s food rescue operation assists hungry residents throughout the City of Greater Dandenong, with the equivalent of 51,000 meals.

Keilty said the organisation was looking to expand the food relief service, which currently supplies 260 charities, and added there was a great need for expansion in this area.

The enlarged space will also permit Avocare to add white goods and furniture to the list of material aid it offers to those in need.

At the same time, she said jobseekers will be able to experience a real work environment by being involved with tagging, testing and repairing the furniture prior to distribution.

Flyer printing is among a number of marketing services Avocare uses to seek support from the community, and currently Keilty said the organisation is in desperate need of a new delivery van and warehouse racking for the new venue.

Work for the Dole participants and staff are scheduled to move to the new premises in March.
