To be held in conjunction with Melbourne Design Week, which takes place in March 2021, the awards aim to uncover ground-breaking design projects across the categories of fashion, service and digital design, communications design, industrial and product design, architecture, design strategy and projects undertaken by students of tertiary design.
The annual design awards have been showcasing and celebrating the many facets of the $6 billion Victorian design sector since their introduction in 1996. In addition, they have illuminated businesses where the use of innovative design has effectively transformed their working mode, public interaction and the products on offer.
Creative Industries Minister Martin Foley said the community boasted many talented highly-skilled designers, adding:
"From architecture to fashion, typography to industry, designers change the way we see things and the way we live. They create products, systems and places that touch every aspect of our lives.”
Winners of Best-in-Category awards will proceed to compete for the Victorian Premier's Design of the Year, which epitomises excellence in innovation and design.
Many projects, such as those entered in the annual design awards, also incorporate graphic design skills to bring ideas to life.
Victorian businesses and designers have until September 18 to submit entries in the 2020 competition, and entry is free. Further information is available at the Premier’s Design Awards website.
