Springvale artists and those across the Greater Dandenong area are being invited to spread their creativity and take part in the city's iconic and highly acclaimed 9 to 5 Exhibition.
An annual event that has become recognised nationally, the Walker Street Gallery and Art Centre exhibition is held to celebrate the immense diversity that exists within the arts sector. What is more, it provides a means of showing that a large impact can be achieved by small actions.
The 9 to 5 Exhibition commemorates an important art era in Australian history, as well as the year it was staged for the first time in Melbourne, back in 1889. At that time, it featured works by Heidelberg School members and Australian impressionism greats Frederick McCubbin, Tom Roberts, Arthur Streeton and Charles Condor, who often used cigar box lids as painting canvases. Printing services have since ensured many of their artworks have been reproduced in Books relating to the arts and its history in Victoria and the nation.
Entries for the 15th annual exhibition are now being called from around Australia. Residents of care homes in the local area are also urged to enter, with special art packs already distributed to give those interested a chance to explore their creative talents.
