The arrival of an estimated 700 customised cars will mark the beginning of a three day celebration of all things ‘Kustom Kulture’ in Springvale, Victoria.
Hot rod enthusiasts from across the nation will be heading to Sandown Racecourse to put their mean machines on show, as one of the highlights of the 2015 GreazeFest Kustom Kulture Festival.
The festival, which is held in both Melbourne and Brisbane, has been described by organisers as a must-see event for devotees of Kustom Kulture, which is an American term that relates to the hairstyles, fashions, artworks and vehicles of those who built and drove custom motorcycles and cars from the 1950s to the present day. The hot rod culture emerged during this period.
An event organiser said the Springvale event would epitomise the ultimate in Kustom Kulture including 1970s lowriders, 1960s drag racers, and the 1950s greasers.
He said during the 1940s and 1950s, glamour and pinup icons that were the focus of poster printing in the USA emerged that had a distinct influence on the hot rod culture as it is known today. It is expected that these features will be represented by vintage fashion parades being held throughout the GreazeFest weekend which takes place August 7 to 9.
The three day event will feature vintage bikes, markets, cool cars, lowrider cycles, tattoos, pin-stripers, low brow art, rockabilly music, fashion and pinups plus much more.
