Springvale, Victoria, is set to receive a new fire station following council approval for the project.
The Country Fire Association (CFA) was granted approval for the construction of the new fire brigade station in Clarke Road, Springvale South, with only one proviso that dictated training hours would be limited.
Greater Dandenong Council Planning, Design and Amenity Director Jody Bosman said Springvale, and the surrounding areas, would benefit greatly from the new modern facility.
She said the new location would enable the CFA to further expand its services and to operate from a more modern integrated base.
CFA Southern Metropolitan Regional Director Peter Schmidt said the Springvale fire brigade was among the busiest, as it attends over 1,000 fires annually.
He said the new site, which will replace the brigade’s current base established in the 1980s at 518 Springvale Road, will be almost double in size.
Schmidt said funding for the new station had been included as part of its $232 million Project 2016, which meant work could begin almost immediately.
When complete, the new facilities would make an ideal image for local promotional activities, such as brochure printing.
Also approved at the council meeting was an application for licensed reception premises just north of the new station at Springvale Road, Springvale.
The centre was described as helping to balance activity in the suburb.
