Vet hospital for Petbarn given the green light

The Caringbah store of Petbarn will soon include an onsite vet hospital, following recent development approval by Sutherland Shire Council.

The veterinary hospital is part of the firm’s roll-out of facilities across Australia that will feature the ‘one stop’ marketing model.

The premises, which adjoins Caringbah Home retail centre in Koonya Circuit, is also to host grooming facilities, including popular DIY options.

The acquisition of Petbarn owners, Mammoth Holdings, by Greencross Limited in 2014 was mentioned in the Development Application (DA).

According to the DA, the merger prompted Greencross Limited to introduce the one stop pet shop idea into outlets Australia-wide for the benefit of customers.

It stated it is intended that the new services to be provided by Greencross will include vet hospitals located close to, adjacent or within existing Petbarn stores, including the outlet at Caringbah.

The main entrance to the veterinary hospital will be through the Petbarn store.

Signs and other marketing materials will list the hospital’s closing time as no later than 7:00 pm according to the DA, which also noted that emergency access after-hours was proposed on a request/needs basis.

According to the DA, staffing will consist of two nurses and two vets to cater for demand from residents and visitors in the ever-growing areas of Caringbah and the Sutherland Shire.

Development approval from Sutherland Shire Council was received on March 9.
