Two big days of celebrations for Australia Day

In a Sutherland Shire first, Caringbah residents will be highlighting two days on their 2017 Calendars to take part in Australia Day activities.

To celebrate both Australia Day 2017 and 20 years of staging the flagship community event, the Council has organised to stage the Ausfest festival over two days.

The festival will feature Australia Day events at Illawong and Cronulla on January 26 and 27.

Sutherland Shire Mayor Carmelo Pesce said Australia Day events will be held at both locations on January 26 followed the next day by a Shire Vibes concert at Cronulla.

Ausfest, she said, will begin at Sutherland Entertainment Centre and Cronulla’s beachfront stage where the area’s newest Australian citizens will be welcomed.

The citizenship ceremony in Cronulla will be followed by a free concert starring the world-acclaimed Ten Tenors, who will be returning a decade after they first featured on the beachside entertainment programme.

Flyers promoting the day highlight the full line-up, which will also include the JC All-stars, Chantelle Symes, the Original Sin INXS Show as well as performances by members of the Engadine and Miranda Musical Society and a fireworks display at 9pm.

Blaxland Oval at Illawong will also host an Australia Day concert featuring Enter Sideways, Original Sin INXS Show, Crowdies and Spring Breaks.

Ausfest’s programme for January 27 will present Shire Vibes at Cronulla Park with Caravana Sun leading the line-up of top local talent.
